A gallery, a venue,
a place to sit still.
Three floors and a courtyard on 3rd Avenue: exhibitions, gatherings and dinners, a recording room, and the Black Tara meditation center upstairs.
One building, many lives.
The Center for Human Flourishing lives at 2277 3rd Avenue — a three-story building with a walled courtyard, minutes from the 125th Street trains.
Under one roof we hold art on the walls, tables for dinners and workshops, a room for recording and conversation, and a shrine room where practice happens every morning. The mix is the point. A building that hangs a show on Friday, records on Tuesday and sits in silence at dawn belongs to its neighborhood in a way a single-use space never can.
Everything here is run by people who use it — practitioners, artists, organizers and neighbors. Most of what happens is free or offered on a donation basis; the rentals pay for the rest.

Gallery & workshop room
White brick, daylight from the street, and wall space we hang and re-hang. It holds exhibitions, community meetings, and workshops that need a big table.

Talks, dinners, recording
A dark-walled room hung with thangkas, set for talks and interviews, long-table dinners, screenings, and podcast recording.

Courtyard & garden
The shrine room of the Black Tara Center, kept quiet and set apart — and a planted courtyard used for fire offerings, receptions, and standing around talking.

Open door, on purpose.
We partner with neighborhood organizations and keep the practice room open to anyone who walks in. Programming here is adult-only. Nothing here requires you to be Buddhist, an artist, or a member of anything.
Getting here: 2277 3rd Ave at 124th Street. The 4, 5, 6 at 125th Street and the M35, M101 and Bx15 buses are all a short walk.
